ST. XAVIER CHURCH BLOCK PARTY DISTRIBUTES $3,000 TO DOWNTOWN CHARITIES

CINCINNATI, Dec. 9, 2009 – The Secret & Old Spice Downtown Dash and Block Party, hosted each summer by St. Xavier Church in downtown Cincinnati, has distributed proceeds from the 2009 event to six downtown charities. The gifts fulfill a commitment made by the Dash to support the downtown charities which make that neighborhood a better place to live, work and play.

The Rev. Eric Knapp, pastor of St. Xavier Church, thanked the volunteers and participants of the block party for making possible these donations to the church’s partners in the downtown neighborhood.

“These organizations share a common mission and vision with the parish of St. Xavier: to assist those in need, to educate and to care for the whole person,” Knapp said. “We are thrilled to be able to collaborate with downtown organizations whose mission is consistent with ours and who strive to improve the downtown community by meeting the real and basic needs of our neighborhood.”

Each of the six charities received $500 of the proceeds from the 2009 event. They include Crossroad Health Center, St. Peter Claver Latin School, the Peaslee Neighborhood Center in Over-the-Rhine, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, the Downtown Residents Council and the Drop Inn Center.

This year’s block party, the third annual, was better than ever. More than 400 runners took part in the challenging Downtown Dash 5K race into Eden Park and back down the hill to the downtown finish line. About 30 kids took part in the first ever Kids Dash. Thousands more stayed after the races for live music from the Rum Runners, a cornhole tournament, food from traditional Cincinnati restaurants and Christian Moerlein beer.

The next Downtown Dash 5K and Block Party is already scheduled for the evening of Friday, Aug. 6, 2010. Keep up with the latest news about the event by following us on Facebook and Twitter.
